COMMUNITY IMPACT: On Sunday, August 3, at VyStar Ballpark, the Jim & Tabitha Furyk Foundation teamed up with Wolfson Children’s Hospital to highlight their longstanding collaboration. Prior to the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp Game, Jim Furyk threw out the first pitch with Marco, a six-year-old patient at Wolfson Children’s.
Marco’s journey began with a brave start. Born with an omphalocele—a rare condition where some organs grow outside the body—he’s shown resilience beyond his years. At just five weeks old, Marco underwent his first surgery, and after nearly four months at Wolfson Children’s Hospital, he came home to continue his journey of growth and strength. Since then, with the support of his surgeon Dr. Pak and the amazing team at Wolfson Children’s, Marco has conquered his final surgery.
Recently, Marco graduated from feeding therapy and is now mastering occupational and speech therapy at Wolfson Children’s Rehabilitation in Fleming Island. He loves reading, numbers, and is already a math whiz, tackling multiplication up to 12×12. He’s also excited to start first grade this fall.
The Jim & Tabitha Furyk Foundation and Baptist Health have worked together for over a decade, primarily teaming up to create the Family Links Program. Family Links is a child- and family-centered support program at Wolfson Children’s Hospital made possible by The Jim & Tabitha Furyk Foundation, addressing health-related social conditions that impact the quality of children’s wellness. Its impact is widespread and meaningful for patients and loved ones. Family Links aims to assist families by identifying the social needs impacting their health, expanding access to community resources, and empowering family decision-making that leads to better health outcomes for children. From food insecurity, transportation, and housing/rent issues, to employment support, childcare, legal assistance and access to basic household goods and supplies, Family Links is here to address these crucial needs and promote our children’s health and well-being throughout the community.
“It’s been a really important relationship over the years. As the area’s only children’s hospital, we couldn’t do it without the community that we’re a part of helping us. There are a lot of services that health care doesn’t get reimbursed for, so programs like Family Links, with the help of the Jim & Tabitha Furyk Foundation, help us to support these kids and families with resources they need.” Allegra Jaros, President, Wolfson Children’s Hospital.
