COMMUNITY IMPACT: Honorary Tee Shot, Friday, October 4

For the fourth consecutive year, the tournament will bring a special guest to the first tee for an honorary tee shot just before the start of competition on Friday, October 4. Alongside the tournament’s friends at Wolfson Children’s Hospital, the Jim and Tabitha Furyk Foundation has witnessed first-hand the incredible work they accomplish and the impact they have in our community. For the fourth year in a row, Wolfson Children’s Hospital was named a Community Champion and direct beneficiary of this amazing golf tournament and is being recognized as Charity of the Day for Friday’s opening round.

Funding from the tournament led to the creation of Family Links, a child-and family-centered support program at Wolfson Children’s made possible by The Jim & Tabitha Furyk Foundation that addresses health-related social conditions that impact the quality of children’s wellness.

In September 2023, Mason Tyrrell was diagnosed with stage IV anaplastic large cell lymphoma, a rare type of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

“The diagnosis was a devastating blow to our family. The fear and uncertainty that accompanied Mason’s illness were overwhelming, but we found hope and strength in the incredible care provided by Wolfson Children’s Hospital and our dedicated team of oncologists from Nemours Children’s Health,” said Thomas Tyrell, Mason’s father.

Mason’s most recent scans were clear.  He is feeling great and happy to be having a normal school year. Mason is a social golfer and really enjoys going to Top Golf.  In his spare time, he enjoys playing video games against his friends, playing with his dogs, swimming, and playing chess.

The staff at Wolfson Children’s demonstrated unwavering compassion, expertise and support, guiding Mason and his family through every step of his treatment journey. The pediatric cancer care team, led by nationally recognized hematologist/oncologists, crafted a personalized treatment plan tailored to Mason’s specific needs.

Mason’s journey to recovery is a testament to the exceptional care provided at Wolfson Children’s, the only children’s hospital in Northeast Florida. At Wolfson Children’s, pediatric specialists in nearly every medical and surgical field collaborate with community pediatricians to deliver world-class care. Wolfson Children’;s is dedicated to ensuring that children like Mason can receive top tier specialized pediatric cancer treatment close to home, offering families hope and healing right in their own community.
