The tournament is going to have something for everyone again this year, and whether you are a beginner just learning the game or an experienced golfer looking for some advice on putting, you will be excited to experience Club Champion’s services and technology at the Hangar Bar.”
COMMUNITY IMPACT: Last year, as part of an ongoing effort to reach beyond the walls of the hospital to address health needs and barriers in the community, Wolfson Children’s Hospital launched a new program called “Family Links” to help connect families with resources to promote children’s health and well-being. Family Links is a child- and family-centered support program, made possible by The Jim & Tabitha Furyk Foundation, that addresses health-related social conditions impacting the quality of children’s overall health.
Since that announcement, 990 individuals have been approved for health insurance coverage, with more than 1,355 individuals receiving SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) assistance. Additionally, 50 families have been helped with housing needs, including rent and utilities assistance, while 52 families were provided help with clothing needs, diapers, and other items.
One mother of three was receiving assistance when it was identified by a Family Links Resource Navigator that the young children needed basic goods. The Family Links Resource Navigator was able to provide the mother with diapers, new baby wipes, as well as an emergency supply of infant feeding formula to ensure the infant receives the proper nutrition to remain healthy. After learning that a family was living in a hotel, a Family Links Resource Navigator was able to provide the family with housing program resources located throughout Jacksonville for their safety, stability and long-term well-being.
More than 200 emergency food bags have been distributed to feed families who are in desperate need of food. The Jim & Tabitha Furyk Foundation recently held an emergency food drive at Timuquana Country Club with its members to provide 100 additional food bags to the Family Links program.
“We are so proud to have partnered with Wolfson Children’s Hospital to create this wonderful program ” said tournament co-host Tabitha Furyk. “The funds generated from Constellation FURYK & FRIENDS provide families who are desperate for assistance with a resource navigator to assist with food, housing, insurance, clothing, jobs, healthcare, transportation and more.”
COMPETITION: In addition to tournament host Jim Furyk, a number of players with local connections have already committed to this year’s event, including former University of Florida Gators stars Chris DiMarco and Mark Calcavecchia, Jacksonville’s own David Duval, longtime Ponte Vedra resident Vijay Singh and PGA TOUR rookie Tim O’Neal from nearby Savannah, Georgia.
Calcavecchia has recorded 13 PGA TOUR wins in his career, including the 1989 Open Championship at Royal Troon, and four victories on PGA TOUR Champions. He missed last year’s Constellation FURYK & FRIENDS presented by Circle K while recovering from knee surgery, but finished T46 at the inaugural event in 2021.
A three-time PGA TOUR winner, DiMarco is also well known for going toe-to-toe with Tiger Woods down the stretch at the 2005 Masters and 2006 Open Championship. He has competed in the first two editions of the Constellation FURYK & FRIENDS presented by Circle K and will look to improve on last year’s T57 finish.
With 13 career PGA TOUR victories including the 1999 PLAYERS Championship and 2001 Open Championship, Duval is a Jacksonville golf legend. He grew up playing Timuquana Country Club while his father Bob was the head golf professional from 1974–1987. Duval will be in search of his first PGA TOUR Champions victory when he tees it up on his childhood course at this year’s Constellation FURYK & FRIENDS presented by Circle K.
A native of Fiji, Singh’s hall-of-fame career resume includes 34 PGA TOUR wins, 22 international victories, and three major championships. He’s added four more victories since joining PGA TOUR Champions, including a three-win season in 2018. Singh will be making his third appearance at the Constellation FURYK & FRIENDS presented by Circle K, with his best finish being a T11 at the 2021 event.
O’Neal has won on numerous tours and encountered numerous heartbreaking close calls at PGA TOUR Q-School, but earned his PGA TOUR Champions card with a T3 finish at PGA TOUR Champions Q-School this past December. He is enjoying a solid rookie season on the over-50 circuit with one top-10 and four top-25s in 13 events played. O’Neal will look to add to his tally of high finishes when he makes his Constellation FURYK & FRIENDS presented by Circle K debut this year.
