Fan Experience: Jacksonville Zoo, Circle K, youth tickets create family atmosphere

Jacksonville, Florida, September 7, 2022 – The 2022 Constellation FURYK & FRIENDS presented by Circle K will include a mixture of competition, fan experience and community impact initiatives that include Jack Nicklaus, Miguel Angel Jimenez, Zoo Animals and Circle K Frosters. All that and more will be on display at the October 7-9 PGA TOUR Champions event that will bring the legends of the game to Timuquana Country Club.

FAN EXPERIENCE: Designed as a family-friendly event, The Constellation FURYK & FRIENDS has something for everyone, and that starts with complimentary admittance to the tournament for youth 17 and under with a ticketed adult. Once on site, families have a variety of entertainment options in addition to the golf inside the ropes.

  • New this year, the Kids Zone presented by Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens will be located between holes 6 and 7 near the Circle K ParTee Porch. In addition to interactive games and sensory activities for kids, the zoo will bring numerous animals for friendly encounters during the three days of competition.
  • Next to the Kids Zone presented by Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens is the air-conditioned Family Lounge presented by Wolfson Children’s Hospital and Baptist Health, which is open to all families and includes complimentary WiFi, more interactive games, a children’s coloring table, changing tables, stations for nursing mothers, and educational information. The lounge is attached to the tournament’s first aid station, also sponsored by Baptist Health.
  • Returning this year for families (and quite frankly all fans!) are the Circle K Frosters. These icy cold, fabulously flavored refreshments are the signature beverage offerings from Circle K and are available to fans at the Circle K ParTee Porch near the 7th green. While on the topic of sweet treats, two dessert food trucks will be on site. Nitrogen Creamery is Jacksonville’s coolest ice cream truck specializing in scratch-made ice cream, non-dairy fruit smoothies, floats, dragon puffs and more. Tikiz Shaved Ice & Ice Cream serves the finest, fluffiest shaved ice (with sugar-free flavors available) as well as assorted ice cream bars, pops and frozen gourmet fruit sorbets.
  • Kids looking for an autograph from the game’s greatest legends can head to the autograph zone near the clubhouse just outside the golf shop.

COMPETITION: Recent Payne Stewart Award winner Billy Andrade, Steve Stricker and Spain’s Miguel Angel Jimenez, who finished runner-up at last year’s inaugural event, have committed to play in this year’s event.

Andrade is a four-time PGA TOUR winner and three-time champion on PGA TOUR Champions. His best finish this season on PGA TOUR Champions came earlier this month with a T3 at the Boeing Classic in Washington. Andrade, along with close friend Brad Faxon, launched the Billy Andrade/Brad Faxon Charities for Children, Inc., which includes the CVS Health Charity Classic. The organization has generated more than $30 million and, in 2021 benefitted 61 charities in southeastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

Stricker has 12 PGA TOUR victories and won his most recent PGA TOUR Champions start at the Ally Challenge, his ninth career PGA TOUR Champions victory. Stricker ranks No. 5 in the Charles Schwab Cup standings thanks to two wins and three runner-up finishes. Although he started his season in May, he has amassed 7 top-10 finishes in just nine starts. Stricker finished T7 at last year’s Constellation FURYK & FRIENDS presented by Circle K.

Miguel Angel Jimenez has 21 worldwide victories and has won 13 PGA TOUR Champions events since joining the Tour in 2014. He is currently fourth in the Charles Schwab Cup standings as he enjoys a career season on PGA TOUR Champions with three victories in 2022.

COMMUNITY IMPACT: As the competition begins at the Constellation FURYK & FRIENDS, the opening day will include a number of activities focused on driving impact and awareness to Baptist Health & Wolfson Children’s Hospital, Jacksonville’s Most Preferred Health Care provider. The day will start with the Champions Breakfast featuring 18-time major champion Jack Nicklaus and his wife, Barbara Nicklaus. In addition to a memorable and intimate program for guests of the breakfast, those who purchase a table at the breakfast will also receive VIP access to the tournament in Club 58, an All-Inclusive Hospitality Suite located on the 17th hole. Those interested in being a part of this incredible opportunity can email Jon Reaves at [email protected] or go to the tournamentwebsite at www.constellationfurykandfriends.com.

Jack and Barbara Nicklaus’ Play Yellow campaign extends to the greater Jacksonville area through the event’s support of Wolfson Children’s Hospital, the charity of the day for the tournament’s opening round. In support of the Play Yellow Campaign, which supports local children’s hospitals, 14-year-old Wolfson patient Jack Jones will join Jack Nicklaus on the first tee following the Champions Breakfast to hit a ceremonial opening tee shot. In early 2021, Jones was playing soccer, the sport he loves, when he collided with another player and suffered a suspected concussion. An MRI revealed a large congenital arachnoid cyst in his brain. He underwent brain surgery at Wolfson Children’s Hospital just days later. Jones is now fully healed and back on the soccer field and is a natural leader.

QUOTES:

COMPETITION – “Miguel Angel Jimenez and Steve Stricker are playing as well or better than just about anyone on PGA TOUR Champions right now. Combine Miguel’s current form with his performance at last year’s Constellation FURYK & FRIENDS presented by Circle K and it would be a pretty safe to assume Miguel will be in the hunt again at Timuquana this year,” said Jim Furyk. “I’ve admired the impact that Billy Andrade has made through his charitable efforts. Seeing what he has been able to accomplish gave Tabitha and I belief and confidence to start our own foundation years ago.”

FAN EXPERIENCE – “As a mother of two, I know how special family time can be,” said Tabitha Furyk. “We want all families to not only have a great time at the Constellation FURYK & FRIENDS presented by Circle K, but to also have all the resources and amenities to make their time at the event smooth and uncomplicated. I’m excited to see what animals the zoo brings to our event and to enjoy some Circle K Frosters myself!”
