Constellation FURYK & FRIENDS presented by Circle K tournament update 1

Competition: Begay III, Duval and Love III committed to play

Fan Experience: Constellation supports sustainability innovations for fans

Community Impact: VyStar, SRS Distribution supporting military initiatives

Jacksonville, Florida, August 31, 2022 – As the Constellation FURYK & FRIENDS presented by Circle K at Timuquana Country Club approaches, fans are reminded of several key competition, fan experience and community impact initiatives for the October 7-9 PGA TOUR Champions event that will bring the legends of the game to the greater Jacksonville area.

COMPETITION: The 2021 Constellation FURYK & FRIENDS presented by Circle K included the strongest and deepest field of competitors in PGA TOUR Champions history, and 2022 looks to be very similar as local favorite David Duval joins current U.S. Team Presidents Cup captain Davis Love III and Notah Begay III, who will be making his PGA TOUR Champions debut.

Duval, a 13-time PGA Tour winner, the 1999 PLAYERS Championship winner and 2001 British Open champion,  grew up playing Timuquana while his father Bob was the head golf professional from 1974–1987. He and his father, respectively, won THE PLAYERS Championship and Emerald Coast Classic (Champions Tour) on the same day in 1999. Duval was a contestant in last year’s Celebrity Challenge for Charity and vowed to return as a PGA TOUR Champions competitor this year after celebrating his 50th birthday in November 2021. He has played in 15 events thus far on the PGA TOUR Champions in his rookie season this year.

Begay III is a four-time PGA TOUR winner and current Golf Channel and NBC analyst and announced at the tournament’s media day last week that he will make his PGA TOUR Champions debut at the 2022 Constellation FURYK & FRIENDS presented by Circle K. He attended Stanford University, where he was a three-time All-American and a teammate of Tiger Woods. He was named one of Golf Magazine’s Innovators of the Year in 2009 and has also been named one of the Top 100 Sports Educators in the world by the Institute for International Sport.

Love III, who calls nearby Sea Island, GA, his home, will return to Timuquana with a little extra Red, White and Blue this year. The 2022 U.S. Team Presidents Cup Captain will be fresh off the team event played at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte later this month. Love is a two-time winner of THE PLAYERS Championship in 1992 and 2003 and won the PGA Championship in 1997.

FAN EXPERIENCE: In addition to the exciting and welcoming atmosphere, fans will also see title sponsor Constellation’s sustainability expertise infused throughout the tournament experience.

  • New this year, Ball aluminum reusable cups will be available to fans throughout the course. These logoed cups are an upgrade from the typical plastic or Styrofoam cups used at sporting events and, in addition to being recyclable, will also provide a lasting souvenir for tournament guests.
  • Also new this year, in an effort to reduce waste, fans are invited to bring their own refillable bottles and use free water stations located throughout the golf course. The complimentary refillable water stations will be located at the Publix Tailgate Village near the 18th tee, at the Family Zone near the Circle K ParTee Porch, between the 9th and 18th greens and near the Duval Gate entrance.  A volunteer group led by students from our local Nease High School DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America) Chapter have formed a “Green Team” to help keep the course clean and help fans take advantage of recycling opportunities.
  • Returning from last year are solar-powered cell phone charging stations and digital ticketing and spectator guides to reduce paper waste.
  • Constellation will bring back its fan activation display, Driving Sustainability Powered by Constellation, to engage fans on simple ways they can conserve energy and make a positive environmental impact every day. For each fan pledge, the Arbor Day Foundation will plant a tree at Elgin Air Force Base as part of the Time for Trees initiative. Elgin Air Force Base spans nearly 500,000 acres of the Florida Panhandle. Along with being a key military training headquarters, it’s also one of the most biodiverse areas in the country and contains the largest remaining contiguous stand of longleaf pine trees in the world.
  • The energy usage at the tournament will be offset by 100% wind RECs (renewable energy certificates) provided by Constellation.

Community Impact – Military Appreciation – The team at Constellation FURYK & FRIENDS presented by Circle K, tournament sponsors, event volunteers and the players all have a profound respect for the men and women of the military and their families. Throughout the week, the event will host a number of different events and initiatives to show that appreciation and respect for those who serve, including:

  • Jake Owen headlines The Furyk Foundation Concert presented by SRS Distribution on October 4  – SRS Distribution has donated 1,000 complimentary tickets for this year’s concert. For local military members interested in utilizing some of these complimentary tickets, contact your MWR office at NAS Jacksonville or visit the web-site here.
  • VyStar Patriots Outpost and military ticket policy – Thanks to support from VyStar Federal Credit Union,  Active Duty, Military Reserve, National Guard, Military Retirees, Military Veterans, Military Spouses and/or dependents will receive complimentary tickets to the Constellation FURYK & FRIENDS presented by Circle K (Friday – Sunday) as well as access to the VyStar Patriots Outpost. The VyStar Patriots Outpost is located at the 7th hole this year and is open to Military Ticketholders. The venue will include exclusive complimentary hospitality for military, veterans and their families with complimentary food & beverages.
  • OPERATION SHOWER supported by PNC and Circle K – Operation Shower exists for a simple reason: to recognize the military moms and military families who serve our country. Operation Shower provides joyous — awesome — baby showers going above and beyond and then beyond that! On Sunday, October 3, the tournament co-host Tabitha Furyk as well as Karen Feagins, VP of Client and Community Relations for PNC Bank, will host approximately 40 “military moms” for an afternoon of respite and gifting to show them the appreciation we have for their service and sacrifice.

QUOTES:

COMPETITION – “Our field will once again include the very best players from the PGA TOUR Champions,” said Jim Furyk. “David Duval is a true legend within the Jacksonville and Timuquana golf community and it will be special to have him in the field this year. Notah Begay III has had tremendous impact on the game through his charitable work, his play on the course and his talents through commentary with NBC and GOLF Channel. Davis Love III is a player who not only has enjoyed tremendous success on the course, but has also represented the values of the game through his charitable work and in hosting his own PGA TOUR event, the RSM Classic. Fans will enjoy seeing these three and many more of the game’s best tee it up in October.”

“I was extremely impressed by Jim and Tabitha [Furyk] for what they have accomplished in the first year of this event,” Duval said. “I have played more rounds than I can remember at Timuquana and it’s great now to be out on PGA TOUR Champions and hear the players say how spectacular it is and how much they look forward to returning to Jacksonville. The fans and the area truly support the Constellation FURYK & FRIENDS and as players, we feel that support and energy.”

FAN EXPERIENCE – “We can all do our part to help when it comes to making smart decisions that conserve energy and create a positive environmental impact,” said Tabitha Furyk. “Constellation has gone above and beyond to support the Constellation FURYK & FRIENDS and our foundation. In addition to being incredible partners, they have guided our tournament staff in developing numerous initiatives to help educate our fans around environmental sustainability and actions they can take. With the aluminum cups, solar-powered cell phone charging stations and refillable water stations, fans not only get to help the environment, but also receive some wonderful perks as well.”

COMMUNITY IMPACT – “The men and women of the armed forces and their families deserve our appreciation,” said Tabitha Furyk. “Whether it’s our military ticket policies and VyStar Patriots Outpost, Operation Shower or the Furyk Foundation Concert presented by SRS Distribution honoring our service men and women, we hope we can provide them with as much support and respect as possible during our event.”
